Making a calculation

Follow the steps below to make a calculation for the active project. If you wish to make a calculation for another project, see how to switch between active projects.

  1. Select a calculator.

    If you need help with that, you can read our relevant article.

  2. A calculator form has four sections, while there is also some extra help on the right-hand side.

    • Diagram
    • Project Parameters
    • Member Selection
    • Member Design

    Note that any values already set in the project settings are pre-filled. This applies mostly to the Project Parameters section but also to some parameters from the Member Design section.

  3. If a question has extra help, you can view that help by clicking on the question mark symbol next to the question.

    Clicking anywhere on the page will discard the box with the help text.

  4. Review the diagram as this can give you useful information.

    • Supported uses, shown on the left and marked with a tick
    • The parameters required, shown in the middle part of the diagram
    • Prohibited uses, shown on the left and marked with an ex

  5. You can also click on the diagram to magnify it.

    Then, you can navigate among its parts using the arrows at the left and right or the links at the top.

  6. Below the diagram, enter a name to refer to the calculation.

    This will be used wherever your calculations are listed.

  7. Enter or edit the project parameters, such as building type, wind zone, etc., in the respective section.

  8. Edit the member selection details, such as treatment level and desired surface finish.

    For extra guidance, you can:

    • Use the extra help available by clicking the question marks.
    • Check the Product Matrix, showing supported combinations (at the section's top right corner).
    • Check our list of Products.

    You can also view our lead times for different products (next to the 'Product Matrix).

  9. Enter the member design parameters of the calculation. These are specific for each calculator.

    If you need to view the diagram again to enter values correctly, you can access it by clicking on the triangle ruler icon at the top right of the visible part of the page.

  10. Click 'Calculate' at the bottom of the form, below the Member Design section.

  11. Inspect the products listed in the Calculation Results table, which appears below.

    Use the filters at the top right corner of the table to show more or fewer options. You can also select 'Show More Options' (below the table) to see the complete list of products that can be used.

  12. Select a product by clicking on it.

  13. Click 'Add to project' to save that calculation to the active project.

    Alternatively, click 'Add + Generate Cert' to also generate a certificate for this calculation immediately. You can read more about generating certificates in this article.
