Design an exposed truss

Follow the steps below to submit a design request or request a quote for an exposed truss. The request will be saved under the current active project. If you wish to submit a request for another project, see how to switch between active projects.

  1. Select 'Standard Truss Design' or 'Custom Truss Design' from the 'Design Requests' section of the left-side menu.

    • Choose Standard Exposed Trusses when:
      • Roof Pitch is 20, 25, 30 or 35 degrees.
      • Span is 1.8m to 7m.
      • Truss member sizes can be fixed.
    • Choose the Custom Exposed Truss option if you want to customise the design aspects like pitch, long span or member sizes.

You can also find more information about the different types of design requests by using the 'Design Requests' link.

  2. An exposed truss form has four sections, while there is also some extra help on the right-hand side.

    • Diagram
    • Site Parameters
    • Member Selection
    • Design Parameters

Note that any values already set in the project settings are pre-filled. This applies primarily to the Site Parameters section but also to some parameters from the Design Parameters section.

Also, on standard trusses, the questions are fewer. The images of specific sections below are from custom trusses.

  3. If a question has extra help, you can view that help by clicking on the question mark symbol next to the question.

Clicking anywhere on the page will discard the box with the help text.

  6. Enter or edit the design parameters, such as roof pitch, roof type, etc. (top part of the section).

Refer to the truss diagram for dimensions to ensure these are correct.
